Public/Private? Punctum!

The MLA Subconference is thrilled to announce that we are partnering with Punctum Books and will hold our 2016 Subconference, “The Public and Its Privates,” at their Studium location in Austin, Texas.

The covert coupling of public and private is perhaps nowhere more visible than in the academic publishing industry, with its privatization of (often publicly-funded) scholarly research and inquiry. Punctum—an open-access and print-on-demand independent publisher—uncouples from this unholy alliance and provides a brilliant example of the kind of creative, commoning project we seek to highlight at this year’s subconference. Recent titles include Michael Munro’s “Theory is like a Surging Sea” and A. W. Strouse’s laugh-out-loud funny “My Gay Middle Ages.” Go check them out!
